Invitation to Participate in the "Hakayaha" Program
The Royal Film Commission of Jordan (RFC) and the New York Women in Film & Television (NYWIFT) are pleased to announce the opening of applications for the "Hakayaha" program for Jordanian filmmakers and those residing in Jordan working in the film sector. This training program will support filmmakers in developing and producing a Web Series that tells the stories of women in Jordan.
About "Hakayaha":
The RFC, in partnership with NYWIFT, launches the " Hakayaha: Stories of Women in Jordan" program to develop and fund a Web Series produced by Jordanian filmmakers and those residing in Jordan. The RFC and NYWIFT will provide guidance and funding to 15 filmmakers to develop and produce a four-episode Web Series, which will be showcased locally, internationally, and at the RFC's Film Centers around Jordan.
During this cycle, you can apply either as:
1) A creative team proposing an idea for the Web Series. The team must consist of at least a director, producer, and writer.
Or:
2) A crew member such as a cinematographer, editor, sound technician, etc. Submitting an idea for the Web Series isn’t required under this option.
The project lasts for eight months, from July 2024 to February 2025, and consists of the following:
a) A six-week virtual writing lab where participants, guided by NYWIFT advisors, will develop the series concept, including treatment and script for each episode.
b) A five-day production lab where participants will work on budgeting, scheduling, financing, and other production tasks, and develop a production plan for each episode under the guidance of NYWIFT advisors.
c) A five-day directing lab where NYWIFT advisors will counsel participants on essential skills for excelling in pre-production, shooting, and post-production phases. Participants will develop their artistic style for the series and learn how to direct actors.
d) Production Phase:
Participants will receive a production grant of $40,000 to produce four ten-minute episodes. Jordanian experts will supervise and support participants throughout the production phase as needed.
e) Post-Production Lab:
A six-week post-production lab will be held both remotely and in-person in Jordan. NYWIFT advisors will provide support and consultation to participants to produce the final version of each episode in the series.
Note: Deadlines for each phase will be determined later.
