Pamfir is a good family man who is tested by fate and turns from the honest path for the sake of his family. The action takes place in western Ukraine on the eve of the traditional Malanka carnival. Pamfir returns to his family after a long absence. When his son sets fire to a prayer house, Pamfir is forced to reconnect with his troubled past. In order to pay for his son's guilt, Pamfir turns to a risky path with irreversible consequences. The film won 19 awards including Special Jury Diploma and Grand Prix Scythian Deer at the 2022 Molodist Kyiv International Film Festival, as well as three other awards at the Ukrainian Film Critics Award “Kinokolo”. It also won the 2022 FIPRESCI Prize, The Guardian’s Best Film of 2023, the Achille Valdata Audience Award at the 2022 Torino Film Festival. The film was also nominated for 39 international awards.
