How do I apply to Mosaic Post-production Lab?
The callout for applications is announced on the RFC’s website & Facebook page. To apply, please visit the ‘How to Apply’ page.
Who is eligible to apply?
Mosaic Post-production Lab is aimed at Arab Film Editors only. Arabs who live outside the region can also apply if their parents are from the Middle East, North Africa, or the Gulf, provided they can provide proof of their Arab origins.
If I am not an Arab national but reside in an Arab country, can I still apply?
Mosaic Post-production Lab targets Arab Film Editors, but residents of Arab countries from non-Arab nationalities/origins are not eligible to apply.
I am of Arab descent, but I do not have any documents to prove it. Can I still apply?
Yes, you can apply. The selection committee will particularly investigate your case, for which you will need to provide a supplementary letter for their review explaining your situation, why you lack such documents, and the reasons behind your interest in joining the Lab.
Can I submit the Lab’s requirements in Arabic?
No, the lab accepts only submissions in English and has English subtitles for all submitted work samples.
This is because some members of the selection committee and the Lab’s experts do not speak Arabic. The Lab always aims to collaborate with readers and advisors not only from the Arab region but also from all around the world to ensure that submitted projects are being reviewed from different perspectives and that participants receive diverse feedback.
Can I still apply if I don’t have any previous work?
No. As the lab targets intermediate and advanced-level film editors, previous work is required to apply. However, it does not necessarily have to be a feature-length project; it can be any film project you have worked on before (short fiction or documentary).
Are there any restrictions regarding the characters, points of view, or opinions?
No, the Lab aims to strengthen Arab voices, and this cannot be achieved without securing a safe space for free expression.
Do you accept genre and hybrid formats?
While the Lab is for feature narratives and documentaries, we accept hybrid formats (Fiction with documentary elements) and stories of all genres.
Does my film have to take place within an Arab community?
While there are no strict requirements regarding your film's setting or cultural context, it's important to note that the Mosaic Post-production Lab is dedicated to supporting Arab films. We welcome stories exploring diverse themes and settings, including those outside the Arab region. However, given the Lab's focus on promoting Arab voices in storytelling, films that delve into Arab communities, cultures, and experiences are given more significant consideration during the selection process. While we encourage all Arab film editors to submit their work regardless of setting, stories that resonate with and reflect the richness and diversity of Arab heritage are prioritized in the final selection.
Can I still apply if I miss the deadline but have all the Lab’s requirements ready?
If you miss the deadline by a small margin, you can still send in your application material, but you will also need to provide a letter explaining your reasons for being late and why you must join the Lab in its current round and not the next one.
How many film editors will be selected?
Five film editors will be selected each year to participate in the Lab.
When and where will the Mosaic Post-production Lab be held?
The first edition of Mosaic Post-production Lab will be held in November 2024. It will consist of a three-month online consultation, followed by the in-person phase in April 2025.
Who will cover my travel and accommodation expenses if my project is selected?
Mosaic Post-production Lab is one of the Royal Film Commission—Jordan (RFC) programs. The RFC covers all expenses, including participants’ travel and accommodation.
Can the film’s producers and director attend the Lab with me?
Although we welcome the directors and producers to attend the lab. Besides the film’s editor, we can only cover the director's participation expenses. However, if the film’s producer wishes to attend, they must cover their own expenses.
How long would it take to find out if I am accepted if I apply?
The selection and evaluation process can take up to one month from the submission deadline. Once the selection committee has made its final decision, the lab team will contact all applicants who have successfully submitted full applications with their application status.
What does the RFC expect in return?
